he Jameel Arts Centre opened to the public on 11 November 2018 and is the Middle East's first not-for-profit contemporary art institution, located in Dubai Culture Village.
Designed by UK-based Serie Architects, under the lead of Christopher Lee, the centre was conceived as a series of boxes of varying dimensions, bound together by a one-storey high colonnade.
The landscape design was conceptualised by landscape architect Anouk Vogel, who used desert plants from all over the world to create a micro-biome within the project - all set within small pockets of courtyards that are scattered throughout the building - visible to the visitors from both the indoor and outdoor areas of the contemporary art space.
In this video interview, Vogel talks to Middle East Architect about the design process behind the landscape design.
You can also watch our video interview with Lee, who provides a detailed explanation of the concept, as well as the use of natural cooling and the optimisation of the waterfront.
